Palermo
The method is constant. The city is the setting.
Hard Mediterranean light, streets, markets and people. Daily assignments, photographing in the city and an image review with Per every evening.

A city of hard light, colour and contradiction.
Palermo is chosen for its intensity. Hard Mediterranean light against ochre facades. Baroque churches beside laundry hung out to dry. Life happens in the street — loud, colourful, honest.
There are few easy postcard shots here. You have to look, move closer and decide what the picture is about.
We use the city to work in. It is not the product itself.
One purpose: to find your own eye.
This is not a photo tour. You work on why you stop, what you return to, and how your pictures hold together.
You get feedback on your pictures every day, and we build a series together. You go home with a way of working — not just a folder of frames.

- 01
Pictures that feel like yours
Work out why you photograph what you photograph.
- 02
Light as mood
Learn to see light and colour as a deliberate part of your expression, not an accident.
- 03
Composition as choice
Compose with intention. Leave out, don't only add.
- 04
The coherent series
Build a whole — not a collection of single frames.
- 05
Stand by your choices
Also when your pictures look different from everyone else's.
- 06
Patterns in your work
Notice what you repeat. That is where your pictures start to look like yours.
The method is constant. The city is the setting.
Many photographers reach a point where the pictures are fine — but not really their own.
In Palermo we work with visual language, light, mood, composition and personal direction — not as fixed rules, but as a deeper understanding of why some images stay with us.
A way of working where the decision comes before the shutter.
The rhythm of the journey.
The days share the same basic rhythm: a briefing and an assignment in the morning, photographing in the city, selection and editing, and a shared image review with feedback in the evening.
Please note: we are in Italy. The programme may shift — the weather, the light, the city and the day itself may decide otherwise.

Per Valentin.
Per has photographed and taught for decades. He cares less about technical tricks than about the choices you make before you press the shutter.
He is present throughout: he sets the daily assignment, photographs alongside the group and gives concrete feedback on your images every evening.
My work is not to give you my pictures. My work is to help you find yours.
